Description
Our Scribner sticks are made to order, as every user has different requirements, and we do not keep every possible option on-hand.
Typical time frame is 2 weeks to fulfill an order. Longer length sticks (IE 48″) may require additional processing time.
These scaling sticks begin as rough-sawn, kiln-dried 8/4 hickory.
After ample time to acclimate, they are rough dimensioned and allowed to settle again, and any newly witnessed “twist” is removed during final dimensioning.
This step is important, as it allows us to get as close to a “straight” finished product, as possible. Â However, keep in mind that this is “real wood”, and is expected to exhibit some movement through its life.
All information is then CNC laser engraved onto the stick.
The stick is then colored.
The “volumes” and “inch dividers” are hand-painted black.
“Squared defect” volumes are hand-painted red.
Log dimensions (“length” and “diameters”) are hand-painted green.
** The engraving process has been changed, and some of the images do not yet reflect the updated look **
Finally we apply 3-5 coats of exterior water-based finish, sanding between coats.
Each head (tip) is handmade, epoxied to stick, and pinned through the stick.
Special requests may be accommodated. Please include specifics/details during checkout in the “additional notes” area, or give a call to discuss.
NOTES:
- “Standard” log lengths are even lengths from 10′-20′. Â (10′, 12′, 14′, etc) Â If you want to see 8′ or 17′, be sure to specify in your order.
- If you want a length/volume/defect series on a skinny side (instead of diameters), be sure to specify in your order.
- Try using the chat, or include specific details during checkout.

I purchased one from the recommendation of a friend. The lines are very accurate and it feel great in the hand all day. Now that you can’t get a Nieman stick, this is by far the best out there. Precise and fine lines takes more of the guess work out of close diameters. We ditched out catalog purchased sticks and replaced them with these.

This is a well crafted stick. It is very light and it feels like driving a sports car compared to my older sticks. Shawn went out of his way to emboss the numbers deeper into the wood and made some trials sticks to get it just right. It has a very sharp end and feels extra precise. I would recommend this over any other sticks on the market today.
