Description
As every user has different requirements, we make our Scribner log scaling sticks to order.
Typical time frame is 2 weeks to fulfill an order. Longer length sticks (IE 48″) may require additional processing time.
These scaling sticks begin as rough-sawn, kiln-dried 8/4 hickory.
After providing ample time to acclimate, they are roughly sized and allowed to settle again. We then remove any newly witnessed “twist” during final dimensioning.
This acclimating step is important, as it allows us to get as close to a “straight” and “stable” finished product as possible.
However, keep in mind that this is “real wood”, and is expected to exhibit some movement through its life.
All information is then CNC laser engraved onto the stick.
We next apply color to the stick.
The “volumes” and “inch dividers” are hand-painted black.
“Squared defect” volumes are hand-painted red.
Log dimensions (“length” and “diameters”) are hand-painted green.
** The engraving fonts and process has been changed, and some of the images do not yet reflect the updated look **
Finally, we apply 3-5 coats of spar urethane finish, sanding between coats.
Each head (tip) is handmade, epoxied to stick, and pinned through the stick.
Special requests may be accommodated. Please include specifics/details during checkout in the “additional notes” area, or give a call to discuss.
NOTES:
- Please include any specific details not asked for in the order process, during checkout. You can add a note to your order.
- Special stain/color requests (like the brown one featured) will likely cost more – contact us to chat about it.

I purchased one from the recommendation of a friend. The lines are very accurate and it feel great in the hand all day. Now that you can’t get a Nieman stick, this is by far the best out there. Precise and fine lines takes more of the guess work out of close diameters. We ditched out catalog purchased sticks and replaced them with these.

This is a well crafted stick. It is very light and it feels like driving a sports car compared to my older sticks. Shawn went out of his way to emboss the numbers deeper into the wood and made some trials sticks to get it just right. It has a very sharp end and feels extra precise. I would recommend this over any other sticks on the market today.
